Classic Wooden Carpenter Bee Traps

My house had become infested, and I could even hear them drilling holes while I was inside. I tried pet-safe pesticides, but they didn’t work. It took about two weeks for the first carpenter bee to go into the trap. Once that bee died, it seemed to turn into a carpenter bee magnet. It’s such a relief to have my back porch back to myself again.

Just received this today and quickly set it up on my back porch, where carpenter bees are the worst. It’s only been out there for three hours, and I already have one trapped.

For those wondering why the trap comes unfinished, that’s by design. Carpenter bees are attracted to raw wood, so if you paint or stain it, they’ll be less likely to be drawn in. To protect it from weathering, I keep it mounted under my eaves.

This is a well-made carpenter bee trap. The bees go in but can’t get out unless you release them from the jar. It has 2 entrances in the front and one on both sides. The back features a hanging hook. The wood is left natural to attract the bees, so you definitely don’t want to paint it or do anything that could deter them from entering. Both sides of the box provide helpful bee info and some history on how Brian Blazer designed these traps and tips for getting the best results. I’m sure this little trap is going to be busy catching bees!

There’s nothing worse than seeing sawdust coming from a hole in your house or gazebo while carpenter bees buzz around your face. This trap started catching bees right away! It’s super cute with a great "Chalet" design. The quality is excellent, with attention to detail like the recessed jar adapter and glued joints, making it solid enough to last for many seasons. The packaging was also great, so it arrived in perfect condition, even though one corner of the box was slightly crumpled during shipping.

The quality far exceeds those rough, boxy traps you find at big box stores. The clear jar gives a perfect view of the trapped bees, and it seems like a bee in the jar attracts more. This really is the best bee trap. It’s the patented trap from the original carpenter bee trap inventor, Brian Blazer. The design attempts by his competitors are just ugly, gimmicky junk.

We’ve definitely had a carpenter bee problem on our back wooden deck for several years now. We often see the bees buzzing around and leaving sawdust below the holes they've burrowed into our deck rails—even though the rails are painted.

I installed this bee trap on the deck rail, and it caught one bee within the first 24 hours. However, it hasn’t caught any more in the following days. I’ll update my review once I see how effective this trap really is. It’s a very cute bee trap house, though!

This is awesome!! I used to always see a couple of carpenter bees flying around, but after getting this trap, I haven’t seen any outside anymore. There are at least a dozen in the trap now. It’s well made and works beautifully—I’m really glad I bought it!

We deal with carpenter bees every summer on our back deck. In the past, they’ve chewed through our deck furniture and railings. This trap eliminates them without the need for chemicals. It’s also very attractive and blends in nicely with the outdoor setting.

It arrived in good condition. All we had to do was attach the clear container to the bottom and hang it outside. I haven’t caught any bees yet, but I also haven’t seen any, so I can’t say for sure if the trap is working. Otherwise, it appears to be well-built and should last for years.

At this point, it’s the final resting place for dozens of bees. I have a couple of these around my house, and I just followed the instructions. Within a few days, I had already caught some bees. I really like the design of this trap because it’s not ugly to look at, it’s easy to empty, and most importantly... it works! I placed it outside where the carpenter bees usually show up, and within a few days, I had a few bees captured, keeping them from damaging my wood.

I’ve been battling carpenter bees that have been drilling into our deck all summer. Most years we only get one, but this year we had up to four. I generally don’t like to harm pollinators (we even keep bees ourselves), but these bees were damaging an already struggling structure. Bug spray wasn’t working, and trying to block up the holes was becoming more risky with the chance of getting attacked.
Within 2 days of installing the trap, we had caught 2 carpenter bees, and another 2 within the week.
I’m planning to install a "wildlife hotel" elsewhere in the yard, so hopefully, next year, the carpenter bees can do their thing somewhere safe for both them and us. But for now, I’m very satisfied with the outcome.

These are fantastic! The design is low-profile, so it easily blends into an all-wood oak or pine finish. I specifically prefer this design over others if you want something that doesn’t stand out too much and can quietly catch wood-boring bees without drawing attention. There are no non-flush edges or shoddy workmanship. You can really tell this was made by a smaller business that cares about the quality of the end product.
I absolutely love the design, but best of all, it really works. Over the past month, I’ve caught 6-7 wood-boring bees, and it’s not even the peak season for them yet. I expect to catch even more in early spring.

The only reason I didn’t give this trap 5 stars is because the wood isn’t sealed in any way. I’ll need to treat it with a wood sealer to make sure it holds up against the elements. Otherwise, it’s cute and comes with everything you need. However, I will say that the tiny hanger on the back seems a bit insufficient.

This wooden carpenter bee trap is built very well and is doing a great job catching the bees. My only wish is that the jar at the bottom was a standard jar, like a mason jar, something that could be easily replaced. I’m not sure how long it will last, but I’m happy with it so far!

We have an issue with carpenter bees damaging our porches, drilling holes into any unpainted wood. We hung this trap outside on one of the porches that has a bad problem. I like that it’s kind of cute, and it definitely looks nice out there. I didn’t place it where it could get rained on because I’m unsure how it’ll hold up in the rain. So far, it has caught a few bees, though not as many as I’d hoped. To be fair, I won’t be satisfied until ALL the carpenter bees are gone, and I don’t think one bee trap will completely solve the problem.

I’m considering putting out a few more traps and may even ask our pest control guy to do a treatment.

We’ve used similar carpenter bee traps before. While the design is claimed to be patented or patent-pending, it’s a fairly common one. We’ve had success with them in the past and expect this one to perform well too.

This trap feels solid. It’s well-built and heavy, made from quality materials—not cheap or thin. Some of the other traps we’ve used were made from very thin balsa wood or possibly thin cedar, which seemed great at first. But when you catch something like wasps, they can chew through that material, creating too many holes and ruining the trap. This one is much sturdier, and if a wasp manages to chew through this, I’d be very concerned...

We’ve just put the trap out and haven’t caught anything yet, but our deck is new, and we only see a few carpenter bees occasionally. However, we had a lot of success with these traps in our old house, where we had a major carpenter bee problem.

Overall, we expect this trap to work, and we’ll update in a few weeks if it does. The key with these traps is to catch a few bees and let them sit in the trap. The pheromones from the trapped bees help attract more. We think this trap will last a long time and be effective. Although it’s a bit expensive, we believe it’s a case of “you get what you pay for.” We’d definitely recommend this one!
